Katie Broekema joined the Kalamazoo College cross country coaching staff in 2016.
A four-year varsity member of Albion College's cross country and track & field teams, Broekema served as a captain for five seasons and graduated with honors in communications and computer science. She went on to receive a master's in communication from Central Michigan University, during which time she helped coach Mount Pleasant High School's runners. After finishing graduate school, she returned to her hometown of Schoolcraft, where her 5km personal record still ranks fourth on her alma mater's all-time list, to become Schoolcraft High School's assistant coach, while working as an event coordinator for Gazelle Sports, Kalamazoo's local running specialty store.
"I am excited to be back in the Kalamazoo running world and very excited to help grow the Hornets," Broekema says.
Broekema also works for the City of Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Department as the special event coordinator. In her spare time, she enjoys running, playing with her American Eskimo puppy, knitting, and attending events in Kalamazoo.
