Four seniors on the Kalamazoo College swimming and diving teams had the opportunity to recognize their Most Valuable Professors prior to their meet on Saturday at Western Michigan University.
The Hornets selected Professor Chuck Stull (Economics), Dr. Arthur Cole (Physics), Dr. Timothy Shannon (Chemistry), and Dr. Jennifer Furchak (Chemistry).
Grant Anger selected Professor Chuck Stull as his Most Valuable Professor because he appreciates that he is a huge supporter of the swim team by attending meets and announcing the events in his classes. Grant is grateful for Professor Stull's positive attitude toward teaching and thus, making his classes exciting to be a part of.
Dr. Arthur Cole was chosen by senior Erin Radermacher. Erin has loved every class she has taken with Dr. Cole because he constantly challenges her to figure things out on her own. He has taught her to trust her intelligence and abilities, rather than second guess herself.
Grant Stille selected Dr. Timothy Shannon as his MVP. Grant worked with Dr. Shannon doing summer research and he enjoyed his experience very much. He appreciates Dr. Shannon's enthusiasm toward teaching and his sense of humor throughout unfortunate lab incidents. Grant is thankful that Dr. Shannon cares about him as a whole person, not just a student in his class.
The final MVP is Dr. Jennifer Furchak and was picked by Courtney McGinnis. Courtney claims that it is Dr. Furchak's mentorship over the last three years that has helped her get to where she is today. She appreciates Dr. Furchak for always going out of her way to ensure students get the best experience possible and for teaching skills that are applicable beyond college years.
All Kalamazoo College senior student-athletes will recognize their Most Valuable Professors throughout the 2019-20 season.
