KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team beat Defiance 2-1 in its home opener on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Jacob Lopez Pink gave the Hornets their first lead of the game with a goal in the 70th minute. Hayden Strobel assisted Lopz Pink on the goal. Luca DeMartino answered for Defiance six minutes later to tie the match at 1-1. Freshman Strobel was back on the offensive attack less than a minute later and connected on his first goal of his college career. Senior Collin Sweet assisted on what became the game winning goal.
The Hornets controlled possession of the ball most of the match and outshot the Yellow Jackets 25-9. Luke Kastran earned his first win in goal while making two saves.
Kalamazoo returns to MacKenzie Field on Wednesday, September 12 for a match against Carthage. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
