With the Kalamazoo College men's soccer team's winning streak extended to three with wins over Albion and Olivet on the road this past week, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association named forward Cal Kirchen the league's offensive player of the week Monday afternoon.
Kirchen, who scored all three of Kalamazoo's goals last week, is being honored with the award for the first time this season. He was honored twice last season and led the Hornets with 14 goals.
In the Hornets' first game of the week against Albion, Kirchen's powerful finish inside the penalty area midway through the first half allowed the Hornets to walk away with a 1-0 win. On Saturday, Kirchen scored two goals within four minutes of each other in the second half at Olivet to secure a 2-0 win.
He currently leads the Hornets with six goals this season.
Kirchen and the rest of the Hornets, currently in fifth place in the MIAA but just two points out of second, begin a three game home stand Tuesday when they host Alma at 7 p.m.
