Football Falls to Albion

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College football team came up short in a 37-17 loss to Albion on Homecoming Saturday.

The visiting Britons scored touchdowns early in the first and second quarters to take a 14-0 lead with 10:08 left in the second. 

Kalamazoo got on the board with a 37-yard field goal by Greg Kearns with 3:01 left in the second making it 14-3.

The Britons scored another touchdown with 1:40 left making it 21-3 before Bubba Wilson scored on a 3-yard pass from Niko Nickson making it 21-10 just before halftime.

Albion made a field goal midway through the third quarter and scored another touchdown early in the fourth to go up 30-10. The Britons made it 37-10 on a 90-yard interception return with 5:59 left in the fourth. 

Niko Nickson recovered a fumble in the end zone with 3:15 remaining to make it 37-17, the eventual final.

Albion put up 397 yards of total offense compared to 320 for Kalamazoo. 

Niko Nickson was 28-of-51 passing for 255 yards. 

Bubba Wilson led the receivers with six catches for 49 yards. Pierce Burke made five catches for 48 yards.

Sam Matthews (41 yards) and Raekwon Castelow (33 yards) each made four catches.

Jared Pittman rushed for 25 yards on 10 carries. Anthony Giovanni had 22 yards on four carries.

Taylor Jackson led the Kalamazoo defense with 11 total tackles. Noah Coplan had eight while Dakota Walbeck finished with seven. 

Jacob Chantres and Isaiah Fleming were each in on a sack. Jake Sypniewski and DeShawn Moore each had an interception.

Kalamazoo returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 26 at Alma with a 4 p.m. start.
