Jake Sypniewski's big week on the field has given the senior defensive back some recognition as he has now been named to the Team of the Week for week one.

Sypniewski, a senior from Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Eastern), was also named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week following his three-interception game to begin the season. The third and final takeaway occurred in Kalamazoo's end zone with just 26 seconds remaining to allow the Hornets to capture a 3-0 victory over Oberlin.

Sypniewski has been a vital force in the Kalamazoo secondary his entire career as he has collected 143 tackles in 31 games thus far. His 60 tackles last season were good for a tie for second-most on the team. He has also now brought in six interceptions in his career.

Sypniewski and the Hornets will look to follow up their week one win at Greenville on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
