After playing baseball and pitching for the Hornets for four years, John Kunec '20 has accepted an offer to work for Fortitude Systems, an IT services and consulting company in Chicago.

An economics major, John studied abroad in Strasbourg, France, an opportunity he described as his most meaningful experience during his time at K.

"Study abroad was the best four months of college," John said. "I was able to travel all over Europe, visit my Aunt Judi in Germany, and truly live in a European city and gain a deeper understanding of French culture while having an amazing time."

Learning to problem-solve and "live in the moment" helped put John's experiences in perspective.

"Kalamazoo College as a whole provided avenues to gain experience in many different types of situations," he said. "I was forced to be out of my comfort zone and adapt and find alternative ways to succeed."

Playing college baseball was also an indispensable part of John's experience. He was second on the team in appearances in 2018 and 2019 and was second on the team in saves in 2019. He made the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as a senior.

"The ability to play a sport, take a variety of courses, and travel the world makes Kalamazoo College a rare place," he said. "K allowed me to balance all of these without feeling too overwhelmed and enjoy them all equally. The variety of experiences and awesome people make Kalamazoo College a special place."
