AUBURNDALE, FL - The Kalamazoo College men's baseball team was defeated by Union (N.Y.) on Wednesday afternoon 8-4. The loss moves the men's record to 7-4 overall this season.
Kalamazoo got off to a promising start in the game by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning on RBIs by Carter Chandler and Jack Clark. Clark would tack on another RBI in the top of the third and the Hornets led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Then the wheels fell off.
In the bottom of the fifth Union scored three runs. The team would score again in each one of the remaining innings to take an 8-3 lead heading into the top of the ninth. In the ninth Kalamazoo made an attempt at a comeback loading the bases and scoring on a walk by Mitchell VanKoevering. Scott Devine made strong contact on a ball that would have been a game-tying grand slam but it was caught at the fence.
Kalamazoo will play its last game from Florida tomorrow against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
