Baseball completes sweep of Calvin

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College baseball team completed a four game sweep of Calvin College with a pair of wins on Saturday. 

Kalamazoo scored 12 runs on 13 hits in the opener to win 12-3.

Kalamazoo scored in each of the first three innings and led 5-1 after three. The Hornets put five runs on the board in the fifth to blow the game open.

Ian Kobernick was 2-for-4 with a bases clearing double. Mitchell VanKoevering was also 2-for-4 while Scott Devine was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Brett Garwood was 2-for-3 with two RBI. John Jackoviak reached base three times and scored all three times. Joey Aliotta homered in the game.

Nic Janssen earned his first win on the mound, allowing nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Kalamazoo used a five run first inning in the second game en route to a 10-6 win. The Hornets led 6-1 after four innings before giving up four runs in the fifth to make it a 6-5 game. Kalamazoo responded with four in the sixth and closed out the seventh for the win.

Carter Chandler was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Mitchell VanKoevering was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jack Clark had two doubles and three RBI.

Kalamazoo travels to Florida Saturday night and faces Westminster (Mo.) on Sunday at 3 p.m.
