Women's Tennis opens play Friday at ITA Regional

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team began their 2013-14 season as the USTA/ITA Central Region Women's Championships hosted by DePauw University on Friday, Sept. 21.

Jenna Riehl won her first round singles match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 over Kerigan McNamamra of Otterbein. Sabrina Dass defeated Adrien Leatherwood (Otterbein) 6-0, 6-2, while No. 2 seed Sarah Woods also won in the first round 6-3, 6-2 over Jessica Huhnke of Trine.

Woods won her second round match 6-1, 6-3 over Hanne Andersen of Principia.

Kelsey Moran lost her first round match 6-0, 6-0 to Aarthi Kasilingam of Washington University of St. Louis. Moran defeated Mackenzie Donalson (Baldwin-Wallace) 6-1, 6-0 in consolation singles.

Woods and Riehl teamed up to beat Schroeder and Dao (Indiana Wesleyan) 8-0 in the first round of doubles before falling to No. 2 Geppner/Hawkins (Denison) in the second round, 8-2.

Moran and Dass fell 8-2 to Cooper/Smith (Hope) in the first round of doubles before pulling out an 8-6 win over Drone/Forkin (North Central) in consolations.

Tournament play continues Saturday and runs through Sunday.
