KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After being named an All-MIAA First Team selection last week, Daniel Henry added another accolade Monday afternoon to his impressive freshman campaign. The Kalamazoo native was named the MIAA men's tennis player of the week for the third time this season in a release from the league office.
Henry went a perfect 4-0 last week during the MIAA tournament and helped the Hornets secure their 42nd consecutive berth in the NCAA tournament.
In the semifinal match against Hope College, Henry and Allen Vinson took three doubles 8-0 before Henry carried his momentum into singles, taking two singles 6-1, 6-2.
He was equally impressive against Calvin College in the final the following day winning doubles 8-3 and clinching the MIAA championship with his 6-1, 6-1 win in singles.
Henry and the Hornets will travel to Washington University in St. Louis for an NCAA Regional beginning on May 11 and lasting through May 13. The Hornets, who earned a first round bye, will play Kenyon College in their first match in the second round.
