KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team competed in the second day of the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships Saturday, Sept. 28.
In the main draw singles, Branden Metzler highlighted the day for the Hornets, advancing to the round of 16 with a hard-fought 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Chicago's Krishna Ravella.
In the round of 16, Metzler faced another Chicago Maroon in Deepak Sabada. This time, however, the result wasn't so kind for K. The No. 3 seed Sabada defeated Metzler 6-1, 7-5.
Bo Hudson, who was playing in the round of 32, fell in straight sets to Kenyon's Pete Dakich by scores of 6-4, 6-3.
In the Kalamazoo Collegiate division, Eric De Witt won his round of 32 match is straight sets, but fell in the round of 16 to Thomas Manning of Allegheny 6-1, 6-0.
Alberto Ayala lost his first match on Saturday 6-4, 6-2 to Case's Kevin Dong.
Ayala and Jacob Scott will play in the consolation doubles final Sunday with Scott also playing in the consolation singles final.
