HOW CAN WE SEE YOU PLAY?
A second way is to attend one of the tournaments below: KALAMAZOO STAFF ATTEND THESE TOURNAMENTS MARCH/APRIL APRIL JUNE DECEMBER |
A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE
Kalamazoo College Men’s Soccer has a unique and successful
history. Under our former Hall of Fame coach, Dr. Hardy Fuchs, K
established itself as a national powerhouse. As a continuing part
of our legacy we are looking for players who are committed to
standards of excellence, both on and off the field. Moreover,
players who best exemplify the values of hard work, integrity, team
unity, honesty and self sacrifice will undoubtedly prosper in our
program because we are firm believers that these values best
prepare them for life beyond K.
THE PROFILE OF A HORNET SOCCER PLAYER
- Good level of technical skills (dynamic in 1v1 situations)
- Excellent PDC’s (Passing, Dribbling and Controlling skills)
- Excellent tactical decision making skills
- Excellent athletic abilities (speed, power, strength)
- Diligent work ethic
- Mentally resilient (seek players who love to compete)
Kalamazoo College men’s soccer is dedicated to restoring its reputation as a national powerhouse at the D3 level and is seriously committed to maintaining high standards in both the classroom and the training ground. Future opponents will consist of competition against top level NCAA teams of all divisions. We will also explore reintroducing the overseas team trip that has proven very popular in the past.
THE RECRUITING PROCESS
At K we are committed to finding the unique type of student-athlete
who would be successful in our program. Principally, they
must first be a great student who takes their academics very
seriously, and secondly, they must be top level players who are
also seriously committed to improving and further developing their
game. It is very difficult to get to see every player who may be
interested in attending the College, but here are a few important
steps that will help us to see you play:
1. CONTACT INFO:
Please complete our online recruiting form so we will have your
information. Also, feel free to contact Head Coach Lumumba Shabazz
via e-mail at Lshabazz@kzoo.edu
2. VISIT OUR CAMPUS:
You can schedule a visit to campus for you and your
parents through our Office of Admission at 269-337-7387 (toll free
within US: 877-557-9755). Visits can be personalized to include
campus tour, classroom visits, informational meetings with academic
and admission advisors and lastly, a meeting with the coaches.
3. ATTEND OUR CAMP:
Our Hornets Prospect Camp (2013) gives us the opportunity to see
you in a competitive environment. It also provides you the
experience of working with our staff and being immersed in our
style of play and method of coaching. While attendance is not
mandatory, this experience will certainly provide you with a
valuable insight into the workings of a competitive intercollegiate
soccer environment.
4. GAME FILM/HIGHLIGHT VIDEO:
Please send us your video highlights. Short of seeing you play
live, this represents the best way that you can show us why you are
the best fit for our team.

5. OVERNIGHT VISIT:
Overnight visits are one of the best ways to get an intimate look
at the school. It’s a great way to meet prospective
teammates, which should help in ensuring that K is the right place
for you. These are arranged through our Visit Coordinator in the Office of Admission during
your senior year. If possible, try to plan it for a time when we
have a home game as this will help you to best experience K’s
sporting and campus culture.
RECRUITING: 2013 & BEYOND
Fall 2012 would potentially be the last year that K has an open
tryout. Going forward, we are planning to select our team primarily
through the recruiting process. Please ensure that you follow the
steps listed above because this will help us get the opportunity to
see you play and judge your suitability as a student-athlete for
Kalamazoo College. Also, the earlier you can alert us to your
interest, the better, as we can plan our recruiting visits
accordingly and move quickly in securing our class.
Exciting times are ahead and we look forward to you joining the Kalamazoo College men’s soccer program and continuing our great legacy.
Sincerely,
Head Coach: Lumumba Shabazz
