KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team won its season opener 2-1 over Milliking University on Saturday.
Millikin outshot Kalamazoo 10-4 in the first half and finally put one in goal with 2.4 seconds left in the half.
Kalamazoo's offense picked up in the second half as the Hornets outshot the Big Blue 8-4 over the final 45 minutes. Freshman Ryan Melgar tapped in a corner kick from Bobby Dennerll in the 63rd minute before scoring his second goal and the game winner in the 76th minute (Ben Meschke assist).
Griffin Hamel made 10 saves in goal for Kalamazoo to earn the win.
Kalamazoo returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Carthage College.
