The Recruiting Process
The Kalamazoo College men’s Basketball coaching staff is committed to recruiting high character student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the court.  We strive to recruit the best possible player that meets the profile of Kalamazoo College, and will recruit extensively to maintain our high academic and athletic standards.

1. Let us know you are interested

  • Please complete the Online Recruit Questionnaire. This will provide us your contact information, which will allow us to send you information on K College and Hornet Basketball.

2. Send us game film/highlight films

  • Mail to:

Jay Smith
Head Men’s Basketball Coach
Kalamazoo College
1200 Academy Street
Kalamazoo, MI  49006

3. Apply to Kalamazoo College

  • Admission to Kalamazoo College is highly selective
  • Applications received prior to November 20 will know their admission status and Merit-based Scholarship on December 20.  All other applicants will know their status by April 1.

4. Schedule a Campus Visit with our admissions office

  • Be sure to let them know you would like to meet with Coach Dougal!
  • Overnight visits can be arranged so that you are able to spend the night on campus with a Hornet player.  This is a great chance to get to know the guys on the team and experience life on campus.

5. Attend our summer camp

  • The Hornet Basketball Advanced Camp gives you the opportunity to show the coaching staff your skills in a competitive environment while learning the skills and work ethic necessary to become a member of the Men’s Basketball Team.

Open Tryouts
Players who have not been evaluated as to have earned a spot on the upcoming year’s team will have an opportunity to try-out during the first week of our competitive season.  We encourage everyone with an interest to try-out, but as this is a highly competitive NCAA Division III program and cuts will be made at the end of the try-out period.

As you look closer at Kalamazoo College and our basketball program, you will see what a special place this is to be a student-athlete.  I look forward to you becoming a part of the Hornet Family!

Sincerely,

Jay Smith
