HOLLAND, Mich. – Looking to bounce back in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, the Kalamazoo College baseball team did just that in game one of the team's doubleheader at Hope College Saturday afternoon. The Hornets took game one, 5-2.
K's bats were at it again in the top of the second as they tacked on three more runs courtesy of a three-run double from Kobernick.
The four early runs proved to be enough for Kalamazoo with ace Ryan Orr on the mound. He limited Hope to just the two runs on four hits in a complete game effort. Orr gave up just one extra base hit and struck out eight.
Kobernick led the Hornets with two hits, both doubles, and three RBIs. Jordan Wiley reached base four times in the first game of the doubleheader.
Game two of the doubleheader was all Hornets from the get-go as Kalamazoo jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings as the Hornets went on to win 14-2.
13 hits from K backed by multi-hit games from Kobernick, Clark and Connor Grant allowed the Hornets to score two or more runs in four of the game's nine innings.
Grant and Kobernick led the Hornets bats with three RBIs apiece.
Aaron Schwark earned the win tossing six strong innings of work, giving up just one run while striking out seven.
K improves to 6-4 with the wins Saturday afternoon. The Hornets close out their series with Hope Monday afternoon at Woodworth Field.
